When a person with a sweet tooth may think of licorice as a dark black or brown bitter-sweet candy; that person may not be completely wrong. The licorice candy does contain licorice root. The story goes that in 1760, a pharmacist had added sugar to cough syrup containing licorice root. The customers the pharmacist loved the flavor soo much that candy makers turned it into a flavor of candy.    

What is licorice, the herb?

Licorice more specifically the root of licorice is a herb that is known for its sweet taste as well as its ability to, also called Yashtimadhu is a herb that is native to the Middle East and is also found in India and parts of Greece. It is the roots of the plant that have been traditionally used to treat a variety of ailments. It can not just help with digestive issues when ingested, but hair and scalp health as well when applied topically or as a part of ayurvedic treatment.
